Frequently

Asked Questions

How do I enquire about a workshop?

Fill in an enquiry form, phone (07599 118 035) or email us (hello@BigWhaleArt.co.uk).

We will then get in contact with you discuss your requirements and confirm availability.

You will then be sent a booking form and a request for a deposit of £50 to secure your date. The final balance is due 14 days before your workshop.

How much does a workshop cost?

Workshop prices start from £20 per person for 60 minutes. The minimum number of participants is 6.

Do you charge VAT on top?

No. Big Whale Art is the trading name of sole trader Abi Macbeth. I am under the VAT threshold and therefore not VAT registered.

What areas do you cover?

Within 10 miles of Hitchin, Herfordshire to your address. Additional miles are charged at £2 a mile.

Who will be taking the workshop?

Usually Big Whale Art creator, Abi Macbeth. Sometimes, it maybe a local artist and if it is, you will be told in advance . We all have an enhanced DBS certificate and have hands on experience of teaching and making art.

Can you do a special theme or bespoke workshop for me?

Yes! Get in touch, and we can discuss what you have in mind.

What do you provide?

All art materials, aprons, table coverings and guidance. I usually arrive 20 minutes before the workshop to set up and take 20 minutes afterwards to clear up. Wherever possible we try to use the miniumum amount of new materials and reuse household objects such as old (and clean!) milk bottles, cans and newspapers.

Do I need to prepare anything?

Table space and a chair for each participant would be great. This could be a dining table or meeting room table. If these are not appropriate or available we can discuss with you alternative ways of making it work - moving it outside for example to do on grass.

Is it really messy?

Sometimes! We recommend that everybody wears comfortable clothing that they don’t mind getting paint and glue on. Aprons and table coverings will be provided.

Big Whale Art is fully covered by Public Liability Insurance for any potential accidents or incidents during the workshops. However, we recommend that participants take care to protect their personal belongings as we cannot be responsible for any accidental damage to personal items.

What happens to the art that is created?

All art created during a Big Whale Art workshop belongs to the person who created it and/or the organisation or workplace that booked the session.

How can I cancel my booking?

We understand that plans can change.

If you cancel more than 14 days before a booking, you will receive a full refund of your deposit.

If you cancel less than 14 days before a booking, you can move the booking to one alternative date within the next 12 months. If a suitable date cannot be found, your final payment will be refunded less the deposit.

Full booking terms and conditions can be found here.

How much are bespoke workshops?

They are priced according to the brief given. The price will take into account the cost of materials and preparation.

Why the whale?

Whales move gracefully and slowly, symbolizing patience, reflection, and mindfulness - traits often encouraged in the creating art. Our name is also a bit eye-catching and easy for people to remember!
